Fight Coronavirus (COVID-19) by Singing Show Tunes!

With the spread of the coronavirus now spreading across the country, hand sanitizer is flying off the shelves, cruise ships are being denied entry into port, and people who sneeze in restaurants are being publicly shamed and ostracized.

At the end of the day, calmer heads will prevail. The Centers for Disease Control confirms that the most effective way to stop the spread of this disease it to make sure you wash your hands thoroughly with antibacterial soap for 20-30 seconds.

Here at The College Audition, we are doing our part with fighting the spread of the coronavirus by providing you with a list of ten show tunes, including memorable 20-30 second cuts,  you can sing while washing your hands to ensure you have met the CDC guidelines.

So grab that hand soap, a faucet with the hottest water you can stand,  and take center stage in stopping coronavirus!

1. Santa Fe (Newsies)

Song Cut:

Santa Fe, my old friend.
I can’t spend my whole life dreaming.
Though I know thats all I seem inclined to do.
I ain’t getting any younger.
And I wanna start brand new.
I need space. And fresh air.
Let them laugh in my face. I don’t care.
Save my place. I’ll be there.

2. Mama Who Bore Me (Spring Awakening)

Song Cut:

Some pray that, one day, Christ will come a-callin’
They light a candle, and hope that it glows
And some just lie there, crying for him to come and find them
But when he comes, they don’t know how to go

Mama who bore me
Mama who gave me
No way to handle things
Who made me so bad
Mama, the weeping
Mama, the angels
No sleep in Heaven, or Bethlehem

3. Seasons of Love (RENT)

Song Cut:

Five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes
Five hundred twenty-five thousand moments so dear
Five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes
How do you measure, measure a year?

4. You Will Be Found (Dear Evan Hansen)

Song Cut:

Even when the dark comes crashing through
When you need a friend to carry you
And when you’re broken on the ground
You will be found

So let the sun come streaming in
‘Cause you’ll reach up and you’ll rise again
Lift your head and look around
You will be found

5. You Can’t Stop the Beat

Song Cut:

Ever since this whole world began
A woman found out if she shook it
She could shake up a man
And so I’m gonna shake and shimmy it
The best that I can today

‘Cause you cant stop the motion of the ocean
Or the sun in the sky
You can wonder if you wanna, but I never ask why
And if you try to hold me down I’m gonna spit in your eye and say
That you can’t stop the beat!

6. Defying Gravity (Wicked)

Song Cut:

Tell them how I am
Defying gravity
I’m flying high
Defying gravity
And soon I’ll match them in renown

And nobody in all of Oz
No Wizard that there is or was
Is ever gonna bring me down

7. Do You Hear the People Sing? (Les Miserables)

Song Cut:

Do you hear the people sing?
Singing the songs of angry men?
It is the music of the people
Who will not be slaves again!
When the beating of your heart
Echoes the beating of the drums
There is a life about to start
When tomorrow comes!

8. Masquerade (Phantom of the Opera)

Song Cut:

Masquerade! Paper faces on parade
Masquerade! Hide your face so the world will never find you
Masquerade! Every face a different shade
Masquerade! Look around, there’s another mask behind you

9. Bui-Doi (Miss Saigon)

Song Cut:

They’re called Bui-Doi
The dust of life
Conceived in Hell
And born in strife
They are the living reminder of all the good we failed to do
We can’t forget
Must not forget
That they are all our children, too

10. Mister Mistoffelees

Song Cut:

And we all say
Oh! Well I never was there ever a cat so clever as magical Mister Mistoffelees!
Oh! Well I never was there ever a cat so clever as magical Mister Mistoffelees!

Stay safe, stay healthy, and for the love of God, wash your hands like Velma after she caught Veronica and Charlie doing Number 17.
